  ZNA - Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate
ZMA – what does it stand for? Does it
stand for Zest, Muscle and Attitude? Does it stand for Zip, Might and
Alertness? Well, even thought ZMA stands for neither of these
possibilities, it just about could!
ZMA stands for Zinc Monomethionine
Aspartate and is the common name of a top anabolic product especially
designed for body builders and others who need to have increased muscle
bulk. ZMA not only contains Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate but also
other great muscle boosting dietary supplements such as Magnesium
Aspartate and Vitamin B-6.
Any athlete can profit from taking ZMA, not just body builders. While
body builders will certainly appreciate the power of ZMA to help boost
muscle mass and improve the efficiency of a workout session, nearly
every sportsman – and woman – will benefit from taking ZMA as a dietary
supplement.
So what makes ZMA so effective? In a nutshell, it’s the vitamins and
minerals in ZMA that makes it so effective and such a leading
nutritional supplement for body builders and others. ZMA contains Zinc
and Magnesium, trace elements that are often lacking in the diet,
especially if you are on a restricted intake diet or a diet that is very
high in low-fat protein (e.g. whey or casein shakes as meal
replacements). While it is true that you can find other dietary sources
of zinc, you would have to eat a hell of a lot of oysters to get the
levels of zinc that are present in ZMA.
Vitamin B6 is another crucial part of the diet that is vital for overall
wellbeing and energy, and that is often lacking in athletes and body
builders on an intensive diet and exercise regimen.
So what does Zinc do that makes it so important for body builders? Zinc
boosts the body’s ability to endure or work – zinc-deficient people do
not seem to have the stamina or the total work capacity of people who
have an adequate supply of zinc in their diet. Zinc also boosts
testosterone – it’s the zinc content in oysters that gives them their
reputation as an aphrodisiac (however, no studies have found whether ZMA
works as an aphrodisiac as well as a nutritional supplement – but good
luck, anyway!).
The big question anyone wants to ask about any dietary supplement or
body building pill is: Does it work? And yes, ZMA does work.
Scientific studies have shown that taking the apsartate form of Zinc
increased testosterone and saw increased muscle mass compared to people
in the control group. The best study on this, which was published in
Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Vol. 31, No. 5, May
1999, was conducted on a group of NCAA football players. This study saw
the players that took the form of zinc found in ZMA had 250% greater
muscle gains than the players who did not. That’s more than twice as
much muscle!
Another positive aspect of ZMA is that those who have taken this dietary
supplement have reported that they sleep better and deeper. As the body
repairs itself (and builds muscle) during sleep, this is a real added
bonus for body builders. But who wouldn’t say no to a good night’s
sleep?
ZMA contains levels of zinc and magnesium that you will not find in your
plain, standard multivitamin tablet. This specially designed
nutritional supplement contains mega levels of Zinc and Magnesium. What’s more, it is safe for both women and men to use.
